Abstract

Nursing is a profession in the field of health that aims to do the right and ethical thing, treats the sick individual with respect, dignity and compassion, and includes the necessary knowledge, skills and competence to provide safe, holistic and individual-centered care.  Psychiatric nursing is an interpersonal process that supports and maintains the functionality of the individual, family and society, and focuses on the treatment of the individual's reactions to mental problems and mental disorders. Ethical decision making is a critical part of nursing practice. Individuals with mental disorders need more help with the effect of the disease. Conscientiousness and compassion are concepts that are effective in solving ethical problems that arise during the care practices of psychiatric nurses. Conscience is a guide for the nurse. Compassion provides support in the therapeutic communication and understanding of the psychiatric nurse with the patient, recognizing the feelings and needs of the patient and meeting their spiritual needs. This review aims to discuss the concepts of conscience and compassion from the perspective of nursing and psychiatric nursing. In conclusion; Nurses' use of conscience and compassion in patient care will increase the quality of patient care by increasing quality care practices.
