Objective: Burn injuries are one of the serious traumas that can be experienced. Studies have reported that the effect of music therapy on burn patients is positive. A systematic review of randomized controlled trials in burn patients was conducted to determine the effect of music during the treatment of burn injuries.
Method: Studies with predetermined eligibility criteria were searched in various electronic databases, including MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, YÖK Thesis, until 26 December 2019. The articles used for the research were examined in the context of the effect of music therapy on burn care outcomes.
Results: 24 studies met inclusion criteria for a total of 1471 patients. Studies have found that there is a statistically significant difference in pain relief between music and non-musical interventions, with music intervention having a positive effect on pain relief in burn patients.
Conclusion: A positive relationship was found between music therapy and reduction in pain and anxiety levels and a decrease in heart rate in burn patients. However, there is still a need for high-quality studies involving music interventions tailored for burn patients.
