Developmental Support Unit Studies in Hospital and Evaluation of Children Requiring Special Education

Developmental foundations of human is excreted between 0- 6 years old. In this a critical period for the development of the human, if it is a difference in a child's development it is of great importance for the family and the community. In this regard, of all the community is important to follow the development of the children. Thanks to child development unit at the hospital, whether the problems in children's development are identified at an early stage. This study, identified differences in the development of the children in the hospital with the initial evaluation is planned to create awareness regarding the referred to special education. In this study it’s aimed to have information about children which have been referred to special education as a result of develomental assessment and screening. In this study was designed as retrospective, had been worked with children between 0-6 years of age admitted to the child development unit between 2012-2014. The data which obtained by analyzing the children's files and their developmental screening test results are evaluated. According to the children developmental screening test results, there is a significant difference between gender, age, delay areas (p <0.05). According to the developmental screening test results, 33.6% of children with developmental differences (n = 296) were referred to special education, and 66.4% (n = 585) follow-up studies are ongoing.
