Abstract

ABSTRACT Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the views of nurses and midwives working in primary care about the mode of delivery and vaginal delivery after cesarean section. Materials and Methods: The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 91 midwives and nurses working in Family Health Centers affiliated to Sivas Public Health Directorate. The data were collected with the Individual Characteristics Form prepared by the researchers, and the Form for Determining the Views of Nurses and Midwives on the Mode of Delivery. The data were analyzed in SPSS program on the computer and shown as mean, number and percentage. Results: Of the participants, 60.4% were nurses, 39.6% were midwives, 62.6% were undergraduates, 72.5% were married and 63.7% had children. 48.3% of the participants had vaginal birth and 67.2% had cesarean section experience. When the views of the participants on the mode of birth are examined; While it was determined that 91.2% agreed with the statement "all women should give birth vaginally unless there is a medical reason" and 89% agree with the statement that "the decision for cesarean delivery should be made by a doctor based on medical reasons"; It was determined that 75.8% of them did not agree with the statement "cesarean delivery is painless", 62.6% "women have the right to choose the mode of delivery" and 70.3% "caesarean section is safer for baby". Conclusion: The results obtained from this study show that nurses and midwives view vaginal birth positively and consider cesarean delivery as a practice that should be done if there is a medical reason.
