The Determination Of The Attitudes Of Pregnant Women, Seasonal Agricultural Workers, Toward Family Planning

Introduction: This study was carried out, in order to determine the of the attitudes of pregnant women, seasonal agricultural workers, toward family planning as descriptive. Material and Method: The descriptive study sample consists of 163 pregnant women coming to Sanliurfa as seasonal worker in the months of June, July, and August and applying to community clinic for pregnancy follow. The data of study were collected via questionnaire and attitude scale on family planning, In order to analyze the data, in SPSS package program, as descriptive statistical relationship test, Whitney u test that is non parametric test were used. Result: 51,5% of the women participating in the study was in the age group of 19 -28, 69.9% of women and 8% of their spouses were illiterate, It was stated that 55.2% of spouses was unemployed and that family income of 81.6% of them was low. It was expressed that 39.3 of the women did not sufficiently benefit from health institutes and 52.4% of them specified that the most important reason to this was economic shortage. It was seen that 71.8% of the women first became pregnant in the age of 20 and less. It was identified that 88.3% of women were pregnant for third and over children; that 87.1% of women aborted 1 to 2; and 76.6% of them made stillbirth. It was determined that in 63.2% of them, the interval between two last pregnancies was less than 2 years. It was seen that 58,9% of the women had information about family planning; that the most known methods were contraceptive pills, injection, and spiral; that they did not almost know the other methods at all; and that the rate of knowing withdrawal, as a traditional method, was 44.2%. The averaged overall scores of women to participating in the study they had from the scale was 96.7 ±11.5. It was identified that the score they had from the scale increased, as the age increased (p > 0.05). As the time of marriage increased, the attitudinal scores of society about family planning and methods of family planning method decreased, but attitudinal scores about birth increased (p > 0.05). It was stated that the attitudinal score about family plan increased, as educational level rose (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the attitudes of the pregnant women, seasonal agricultural workers, about family planning were low and more applications were made traditionally. Since the attitudes of women were insufficient, it was identified that it negatively affected the affect with more and often birthing.
